The student experience is so universal that you can find these 13 types of students in every class. Can you identify with any of these types?
No doubt, everyone is unique in their own way, but walk into any classroom, and you’ll find these 13 types of students.
Student #1: Overachievers
They ask a lot of questions, go deeper into the course material than the class requires, type the notes they took by hand, and even ask for more homework.
Student #2: The class clown
To them, everything is a joke. They interrupt the classroom frequently and make it hard to concentrate in study groups, but they also make you laugh during a stressful time. They don’t take themselves or life too seriously.
Student #3: The One Who Can’t Let Go of Their Phone
A conversation with them wouldn’t be complete without them reading and responding to text messages. In class, they never leave their phones behind. Most of the time, they are either texting or making funny faces on Snapchat. They think professors don’t notice, but they’re usually wrong.
Student #4: The One Who Never Stops Partying
You may feel overwhelmed by the amount of school work you have to do while working almost full-time. To create some balance in your life, you might try to enjoy some partying here and there, but it’s relatively rare. Each day, these students come to class with new stories from the parties they attended the night before. This leads to our next type of student.

Student #5: The One Who Falls Asleep
Chances are there is someone in your class who will fall asleep no matter how uncomfortable the seats are or how fascinating a class is. Most of them fall asleep in the back of the room, but some of them doze right in front of the professor in the front row.
Student #6: The One Who Always Daydreams
These students don’t actually fall asleep in class, but their minds wander so far away that they might as well close their eyes and snooze a bit.
Student #7: The One Who’s Always Involved
What is the student board? You’ll find them there. They’re there. There it is. Zumba class? Sure. Helping families in need build homes? That’s what they’re doing. Holding rallies and fairs? They’re on it. Of course. There’s a good chance these students will attend whatever activity your university offers.
Student #8: The one everyone thinks is perfect
They get high grades and are smart beyond their grades. They’re funny, nice, and look great. They get involved in social activities, enjoy parties and reading, work at a job that actually makes a difference, and have a lot of friends.
Student #9: The One who is always anxious
Students who are anxious worry about everything, from taking perfect notes to what people think to how writing a few sentences differently on an exam could have improved their grade and guaranteed them a dream job.
Student #10: The One Who’s Really an Artist
Every day, they play music between classes, design their own clothes, or draw beautifully in their notebooks and books. Hey, at least the paper doesn’t go to waste!
Student #11: The One Who Never Comes Prepared
They always ask to borrow your notes or need you to tell them what the test is going to be about, since they rarely attend class, pay attention, or read the material. Someday it will all catch up with them, and for some, it will, but for others, they’re lucky…
Student #12: The One Who Gets High Grades Without Studying Much
Every classroom has this problem. Students with previous knowledge or students who find their degree very easy can get high grades with little study.
Student Type #13: The One Who Works Hard at Every Grade
Graduating from college isn’t easy for these students, but they set goals for themselves, learn how to study, adopt efficient study habits, and work really hard to do well in college and set themselves up for success.
